The funding of the £1.4M track was provided by NHS Knowsley, Sport England and British Cycling. The project was designed by Broadway Malyan and built by Balfour Beatty Construction.

The 400m asphalt track is 7m wide with 30 degree bankings and was officially opened on the 27th September 2012 by Olympic Gold medallist Chris Boardman. To make the track more accessible, the council have provided £20,000 worth of equipment which will be available for hire.

The track forms part of the £16.1m Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park which has a BMX pump track, two swimming pools, a sports hall, gym, dance studio, spa and beauty treatment areas. Liverpool Century CC has relocated its club rooms to Knowsley and holds a weekly track night at the facility
